What happened: AgriStack rollout, farmer identification, and crop estimation systems

AgriStack is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare as a farmer-centric Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) built as a public good for efficient, easier and faster service and scheme delivery to farmers. AgriStack is described as providing a comprehensive profile of each farmer, including farmer details, land records, crops grown, and farmer assets such as livestock and fisheries.

AgriStack consists of three foundational registries associated with the agriculture sector. The three registries are the Farmer Registry, Geo-Referenced Village Maps, and Crop Sown Registry.

AgriStack’s Farmer Registry is described as a foundational database for efficient, transparent and faster delivery of agricultural services. The government reports that Farmer ID creation is done by synchronising farmers’ details with their digitised land records.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare reports progress on Farmer ID creation. As of 3 August 2026, more than 10.31 crore Farmer IDs have been created across the country.

AgriStack’s Farmer Registry is being integrated with various farmer-centric scheme services and digital platforms. The government states that these integrations are intended to expedite credit disbursements, access to crop insurance, weather advisories, and MSP-based crop procurement systems.
