What happened: PM-YASASVI support enabled an OBC student to study at NIFT Bengaluru
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment highlighted the education journey of an OBC beneficiary, Sohan Dudhe, to illustrate how the PM-YASASVI Scheme – Top Class Education for OBC, EBC and DNT Students supports access to professional higher education. Sohan Dudhe, a 19-year-old student from a rural background, is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bengaluru, with scheme support.
According to the government account, the PM-YASASVI support helped reduce financial stress and enabled Sohan Dudhe to focus on academics, skill development, and practical learning. The Ministry also states that the support began in 2024 and Sohan Dudhe continues the course at NIFT Bengaluru.
Who the beneficiary is (Sohan Dudhe) and what barriers were faced
Sohan Dudhe is from the small village of Darwha in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra. The Ministry describes him as among the first learners in his family to pursue professional higher education.
