What happened: DAHD reported dairy-sector modernisation through NPDD and AHIDF
Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, stated that the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India, implements schemes to complement State Governments in strengthening, modernising, and promoting the dairy sector. The stated objectives are to enhance milk production and productivity, improve dairy infrastructure and dairy value-chain development, strengthen milk processing and marketing facilities, and improve overall efficiency and sustainability of the dairy sector.
National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD): central grant support across procurement, chilling, processing, and quality assurance
Under the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), DAHD provides central grants for strengthening key links of the milk value chain. The PIB communication reports the following central grant assistance patterns under NPDD:
• 50% grant assistance for strengthening milk procurement, chilling, and quality assurance infrastructure to increase the share of organised milk procurement in the country. • 75% Central Grant assistance for establishing modern milk procurement, dairy processing, value addition, and cold chain infrastructure. • 70% Central Grant assistance for setting up quality assurance infrastructure, limited to hilly areas and the North Eastern Region (NER).
