What happened (Lok Sabha written reply on rural technology demonstration projects)

The Government stated in a Lok Sabha written reply that the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have been promoting technology transfer, rural innovation, and scientific solutions to address livelihood challenges in agriculture-dependent regions across India. The Government also stated that technology demonstration projects have been implemented in multiple regions, including the Khajuraho Lok Sabha region.

What DST and related programmes focus on (DST and DBT routes)

DST projects are described as competitive, scheme-based efforts that aim to adopt technologies for locally defined priorities. The stated focus areas include improved resource-use efficiency, sustainable management of environmental resources, reduction of waste and pollution, and development of locally adaptable solutions for sustainable agricultural practices and rural livelihoods. The Government also stated that DST-supported projects strengthen human capacities, institutional capacities, and technology deployment.

DST initiatives are also linked with Department of Biotechnology (DBT) activities. The reply lists selected DST/DBT initiatives in Annexure I, including SC/ST-focused and women-focused technology enablement programmes, as well as a technology hub under NM-ICPS (National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems) at IIT Ropar focused on agriculture and water technologies.
