What happened (interdiction and seizure under Operation Vajra 2.0)

The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) MP Unit carried out an intelligence-led interdiction during Operation Vajra 2.0 to stop illegal diversion and trafficking of psychotropic medicines. CBN reported that the interception occurred on the Chandigarh–Baddi interstate route on 27–28 August 2026, based on intelligence about movement of a large illicit consignment along the Punjab–Himachal Pradesh corridor.

CBN described the operational method as sustained surveillance by a specialised preventive team that positioned itself on the interstate route. After overnight vigilance beginning 27.08.2026, the team intercepted a suspicious SML Isuzu Sartaj truck bearing Uttar Pradesh registration and shifted the truck to a secure location for detailed search and examination.

CBN reported the following seizure and legal outcomes:

66,79,980 psychotropic tablets were seized.The seized tablets included Alprazolam, Tramadol, Nitrazepam, and Clonazepam.The cargo included 120 master cartons containing controlled psychotropic substances.One SML Isuzu Sartaj truck was seized.One person was arrested under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.CBN stated examination, inventory preparation, and sealing continued for more than 14 hours through the night.

CBN reported evidentiary indicators of concealment and evasion of regulatory tracking. These indicators included erasure of batch numbers, manufacturing dates, and expiry dates from a substantial quantity of blister strips and boxes. CBN also stated that some medicines carried the marking “Not to be sold in Punjab Haryana State” while being transported into the region without valid supporting documents such as invoices, bilyt/bilty (as stated in the PIB release), or E-way bills.
