What happened (launch in Puducherry on 1 September 2026)

The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India organised the launch of Fisheries Infrastructure Projects under PMMSY and a Multi-Dimensional Capacity Building Conclave for Co-operative Led Seaweed Farming under the Blue Economy in Puducherry on 1 September 2026 at Kamarajar Manimadapam, Puducherry.

The government stated the initiative aims to strengthen fisheries infrastructure, promote sustainable livelihood opportunities for coastal communities, enhance value chain efficiencies, and accelerate development through a cooperative-led approach.

During the same event, the Union Minister also highlighted support for seaweed farming and deep-sea fishing for high-value species, and discussed reforms related to fishing in the EEZ and high seas for Indian flagged vessels.
