NAMASTE-SUY support enabled sanitation entrepreneur Chetan Kumar Kaushik, a 32-year-old resident of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, to strengthen and expand sewer and septic tank suction services. Chetan provides the services in Mohan Nagar and Sahibabad areas under Nagar Nigam Ghaziabad’s Mohan Nagar Zone.

Chetan’s earlier work was mainly sanitation-related services, but limited earnings left little scope for savings, business expansion, or long-term financial security. The support under the Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) component of NAMASTE was aimed at building a stronger and more self-reliant sanitation service enterprise.

Background and earlier position: limited savings and a major medical shock

Before the SUY support, sanitation work was Chetan Kumar Kaushik’s primary source of livelihood. Chetan Kumar Kaushik earned enough to meet household needs and family responsibilities, but the government communication reports that earnings were largely spent on these responsibilities.

The government communication describes a sharp increase in financial difficulty after Chetan’s mother required prolonged medical care. Chetan Kumar Kaushik was the sole earning member of the family, supporting his homemaker wife and arranging treatment for his mother. Chetan Kumar Kaushik used savings from his sanitation work to secure treatment at reputed hospitals.
