What happened: NAMASTE–SUY support enabled mechanised sanitation services
NAMASTE–Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) support helped sanitation worker Kapil Pal expand his livelihood by procuring mechanised equipment for sewer and septic tank sanitation services. Kapil Pal received the assistance on 21 September 2021, after financial constraints and limited equipment options made it difficult to achieve stable, long-term livelihood security.
Who benefitted and what challenges existed
Kapil Pal is a 32-year-old sanitation worker from Noor Nagar, Sihani, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The PIB release states he belongs to the OBC/Gadaria community and completed education up to 12th standard. He entered sanitation-related work to support his family, living in a joint family with his wife, two children, parents, and an elder brother. Kapil Pal is described as the primary earning member, bearing major responsibility for household expenses and children’s education. The PIB release also mentions a back operation as a major challenge after which medical costs created physical, emotional, and financial stress.
