What happened: Jharkhand protests against the MMDR Bill (August 25–31)
Left parties in Jharkhand announced a week-long agitation against the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Bill (MMDR Bill), scheduled from August 25 to August 31.
A joint press conference by multiple Left parties announced the protest plan. The parties named at the press conference include CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML) Liberation, SUCI, and Forward Bloc.
CPI State secretary Mahendra Pathak said Left parties would burn copies of the MMDR Bill in every village, block and district during the protest window.
AJSU Party chief Sudesh Mahto criticized the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)’s opposition to the MMDR Bill, describing it as a political stunt.
