The Ministry of Heavy Industries has invited global bids for the remaining 10 GWh of advanced chemistry cell battery manufacturing capacity under the Production Linked Incentive scheme. The capacity is intended for grid-scale energy storage for renewable power and is part of India’s effort to reduce import dependence in a strategic industrial sector.
The Union government approved an ₹18,100-crore scheme in 2021 for a total of 50 GWh of advanced chemistry cell battery capacity. The Ministry of Heavy Industries says 40 GWh has already been allocated domestically, and the remaining 10 GWh has now been opened for bidding.
