What happened (court direction on 13 decentralised sewage treatment plants)
The Delhi High Court directed the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) to examine a proposal from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to set up 13 decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs). The stated objective of the DSTPs is to prevent untreated sewage from flowing into the Yamuna.
Background and earlier position (monitoring indicates continued untreated sewage discharge)
The High Court’s August 24 direction followed monitoring by court-appointed commissioners. The commissioners’ findings, as reported to the court, were that only part of Delhi’s sewage is treated and untreated sewage continues to reach the Yamuna.
The court was also informed that detailed project reports for the 13 DSTPs were prepared by the relevant authorities and sent to the Namami Gange Project Authority.
What changed now (review covers plants, upgrades, and mixing controls)
