What happened: Supreme Court to seek Nandan Nilekani task force inputs for NEET-UG CBT
The Supreme Court indicated it will seek suggestions from a high-powered task force headed by Nandan Nilekani. The task force is focused on transitioning NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates) to a computer-based test (CBT), moving away from a pen-and-paper exam format.
A Bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe was hearing a petition filed by Sudhakar Singh, a Member of Parliament from the Rashtriya Janata Dal. The petition sought broad reforms, including a direction to consider moving NEET-UG from pen-and-paper to CBT.
NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled after a paper leak. During the hearing, the Solicitor-General informed the Bench that the Union government had constituted the Nandan Nilekani-headed task force after taking the issue seriously.
Justice Narasimha stated that the Supreme Court would hear the matter on 3 August along with other pending NEET reform petitions.
