What happened: Supreme Court distance-based restrictions around the Jojari river
On 2026-08-25, the Supreme Court of India ordered pollution-prevention restrictions around Rajasthan’s Jojari river. The Supreme Court’s directions impose distance-based limits intended to prevent contamination of a seasonal river system that affects large populations.
The Supreme Court’s directions included: 100 metres from the Jojari river: ban on any construction or development activities within this distance. 500 metres from the river on either side along the river’s flow path: prohibition of hazardous industries within this distance.
The Supreme Court also indicated a long-term approach for industrial pollution control. The Supreme Court suggested that authorities should consider relocating industries away from the riverbank, including an industrial area located along the riverbank in Pali.
