What happened
Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed indigenous border-security technology at a Border Security Force outpost in Siliguri, West Bengal. He said the Siliguri corridor, once described as an infiltration route, is becoming a secure border zone.
Shah inspected intruder warning systems, radio-based fence intrusion detection, gate management software, and an indigenous border security system fitted on a new-design fence. He also chaired a high-level meeting with Border Security Force and state officials.
Shah virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth ₹77.06 crore, including a 4-km border fence on newly acquired land.
Background and earlier position
The Sundarbans terrain remains difficult for fencing, which makes surveillance, patrol coordination, and sensor-based detection more important than fencing alone.
