What happened (Bhalswa inspection and deadline push)
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal inspected ongoing work to clear legacy waste at the Bhalswa landfill in Delhi. Manohar Lal urged Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials to ensure the December 31 deadline is met for legacy-waste clearance. Manohar Lal also asked MCD officials to prevent processing of incoming fresh waste from slowing remediation activities for legacy waste already accumulated at Bhalswa.
MCD informed Minister Manohar Lal about remediation progress for legacy waste at Bhalswa and gave forecasted clearance expectations tied to cut-off dates:
99.07 lakh metric tons of legacy waste had been remediated at Bhalswa up to July 31.
Remaining legacy waste at Bhalswa was expected to be cleared by October 15.
