What happened
The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas stated in the Lok Sabha that state-owned oil marketing companies reduced per-cylinder under-recovery on domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in August to around ₹188. The minister also said the under-recovery level was much lower in July and higher in June.
Background and earlier position
Domestic LPG under-recovery is the difference between the cost incurred by oil marketing companies to supply LPG and the administered consumer price at which domestic LPG is sold. When the administered price is below supply cost, oil marketing companies face losses. Subsidy compensation is provided to offset these losses, but accumulated losses can still remain high.
