What happened in the Lok Sabha (passage amid protests)

The Lok Sabha considered and passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 on Wednesday. Opposition MPs protested during consideration and passage, and the Bill was put to vote without an extended debate. The Lok Sabha was adjourned until Thursday.

After adjournments, the Lok Sabha took up the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 and placed it for passage. Opposition MPs entered the Well and shouted slogans. Opposition MPs argued that the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 was against federalism. Opposition MPs also shouted “Adani” when the Chair put the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 to a vote.

Parliamentary response to disruption during passage

After passage, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister criticised MPs for crowding the Well. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister stated that the government was ready to debate student protests related to NEET paper leak allegations and urged the opposition to initiate discussion.

The Home Minister expressed willingness to answer questions and said the Home Minister had written to the Speaker requesting a debate. The Speaker appealed to Samajwadi Party and Congress leaders to ask their members to return to their seats. A Speaker attempt to allow a member to speak was derailed due to microphone issues while sloganeering continued. The Lok Sabha was then adjourned until Thursday.
