Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri explained that a reduction in fuel prices will become possible only once cheaper crude oil reaches Indian shores.

Current prices are based on earlier, higher-priced crude due to advance purchase practices. The minister noted that oil marketing companies faced a significant loss in the latest quarter.
