Wind turbine firms seek export-linked sops, PLI; industry asks for flanges/bearings incentives

What happened: IWTMA sought export-linked incentives, component incentives, and export finance support
The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) wrote to India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy requesting export-linked incentives for wind turbine manufacturing. IWTMA proposed structuring the incentive in rupees per megawatt for a multi-year period, with an alternative turnover-linked incentive option applicable to exports.
IWTMA’s stated argument is that India-manufactured wind equipment faces cost competitiveness challenges versus China because China has extensive manufacturing subsidies and an established manufacturing ecosystem for wind equipment.
IWTMA also suggested export finance and credit facilities for buyers of Indian-made wind turbines to support export orders.
IWTMA’s component-level asks included incentives to enable local manufacturing of flanges and large bearings. IWTMA stated that large forging capacity needed for these components is not available at scale in India for meeting such needs.
