What happened: India denies involvement and endorsement of the FCC press conference
India’s External Affairs Ministry said the Government of India has no involvement in a press conference that Bangladesh’s deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to address at the Foreign Correspondents Club (FCC) on Wednesday. The External Affairs Ministry spokesperson stated that the FCC press conference is organised by a private media entity and that India does not endorse any views expressed at the FCC forum.
The External Affairs Ministry clarification was made after Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kobir met India’s High Commissioner in Dhaka. Humayun Kobir warned that Sheikh Hasina’s continued political activities on Indian territory could harm India–Bangladesh bilateral ties.
FCC president Dr. Waiel Awwad was quoted saying Sheikh Hasina would announce plans to return to Bangladesh during an exclusive interactive session.
