What happened: alleged police use of force during student protests and demand for inquiry

A Congress fact-finding team’s preliminary report alleged that Bihar Police used gunfire, tear gas, and lathis against student protesters without following mandatory legal procedures governing use of force.

Kanhaiya Kumar, identified as a national in-charge for the Congress student wing (NSUI), demanded a fair judicial inquiry into the police actions.

Kanhaiya Kumar spoke in Patna and alleged that Bihar Police disregarded legal rules and police manuals while trying to suppress peaceful protests.

Kanhaiya Kumar named multiple districts where allegations of coercive action were made: Patna, Siwan, Jehanabad, Bhagalpur, and Darbhanga.

Kanhaiya Kumar specifically alleged excessive force in Siwan, including claims that students were fired at with AK-47 guns.
