JNUSU, JNUTA seek ouster of V-C over recruitment ‘scam’

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) and the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) demanded the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). JNUSU and JNUTA linked the resignation demand to allegations that teacher recruitment at JNU involved irregularities and misuse of administrative power.

JNUSU and JNUTA stated that Jawaharlal Nehru University’s institutional framework is created through an Act of Parliament. JNUSU and JNUTA argued that administrative misuse is “dismantling” the Act-based governance framework. JNUSU and JNUTA also said they sent a charter of demands to the President (as JNU Visitor), the Chancellor, the Education Ministry, the University Grants Commission (UGC), and Members of Parliament.

JNUSU and JNUTA alleged that at least seven faculty appointments violated UGC norms and JNU statutes.
