What happened (arrest linked to the 1991 Jammu railway station blast)
Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Altaf Hussain Sheikh from Marhama in Anantnag after a reported gap of 35 years. Police said Altaf Hussain Sheikh was absconding and was reportedly wanted in a 1991 bomb blast case connected with Jammu railway station.
Police described the alleged attack and outcome as follows:
Date of bomb blast: April 2, 1991.Place: Jammu railway station, platform 1.Fatalities: three deaths, including two paramilitary personnel.Injuries: 18 civilians injured.
Police also stated that during the earlier investigation, investigators arrested one accused, while three other accused escaped and were declared absconders by a court. Police stated that Altaf Hussain Sheikh was produced before the TADA court after the arrest.
