What happened

The Supreme Court-appointed panel on the Aravallis has opened a 21-day window for the public to submit views on protection of the mountain range. The panel is collecting stakeholder input before final recommendations on conservation, land use, and development pressures are prepared.

Why the issue matters

The Aravalli range is a key ecological and geographical feature of north-west India. Any policy response has to balance habitat protection, groundwater recharge, land-use regulation, and the pressure of urban and mining expansion.
