What happened (current situation)
Landslides have forced closure of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (the road corridor connecting Jammu and Srinagar). As a result, trucks are stopped at Qazigund, and road connectivity in the corridor is disrupted.
Background and earlier position
The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway is a key mountain transport corridor in the Kashmir region. In Himalayan terrain, landslides and rockfalls can occur when unstable slopes get stressed by triggers such as heavy rain, water seepage, or other local conditions, making road sections unsafe for movement.
What changed now
A landslide-driven closure turns a geohazard into an operational shutdown. With the highway closed, trucks cannot pass the affected stretches and remain halted near Qazigund.
