What happened: Sakshi Chaudhary’s Commonwealth Games selection and medal through a 54kg to 51kg gamble

Army boxer Sakshi Chaudhary describes a deliberate change in her weight-class plan to secure a Commonwealth Games opportunity and then win her first medal in a multi-sport event. She explains that she already had qualification for the Commonwealth Games in the 54kg category through prior results, but she chose to enter trials in the 51kg category instead.

Chaudhary says the 54kg to 51kg cut involved risk. The risk came from two directions: (1) facing stiffer competition in the 51kg field, and (2) injury risk from rapid or aggressive weight reduction.

To execute the cut and still perform, Chaudhary outlines a focused mindset and a structured weight-management routine. She reports using the following approach:

Mindset during the cut: staying focused regardless of opponent, and treating herself as the main competitor.Rapid weight control actions: sharply reducing food intake, adding extra training sessions, and using a hot suit to shed weight while continuing to perform.

For boxing strengths, Chaudhary emphasizes endurance and running. She links her conditioning to the Army camp training environment and says she did not need extensive additional work specifically on strength or endurance.
