31,789 illegal settlers deported in 40 years: Assam CM
Assam CM reveals deportation figures of illegal immigrants.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the Assembly that 31,789 alleged illegal immigrants were deported from the state over the past 40 years.
He linked these deportations to the August 1985 cut-off date associated with the Assam Accord, which followed a six-year agitation against foreigners from neighbouring countries, especially Bangladesh.
Sarma stated that deportations were carried out under the Accord’s framework, which covers detection and removal of persons who entered illegally after March 24, 1971.
Understanding immigration policies impacts social and political structures in Assam.
