What happened
A 24-year-old man arrested by Thoothukudi South police for allegedly selling liquor bottles died at Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital after being released on station bail. His family alleged custodial torture and said he had suffered head injuries.
The family also cited a video in which the man allegedly said he was assaulted by three police personnel. The police denied the allegation and said he had been examined by a doctor, found to have no external injuries, later collapsed in the lock-up, and was then sent home with relatives before being admitted to hospital again.
