What happened

Opposition INDIA bloc MPs and ruling National Democratic Alliance MPs staged rival protests outside the Parliament complex at Makar Dwar before both Houses met. The confrontation centred on the NEET paper leak and alleged Central Board of Secondary Education irregularities.

The Opposition demanded that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resign. The ruling alliance countered with slogans accusing the Opposition of politicising the issue and arguing instead for discussion in Parliament.

The protest involved senior Opposition leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav, along with other Members of Parliament. The Opposition also carried banners demanding the minister’s ouster.

Why the protest matters

The protest shows how an examination-integrity controversy has become a parliamentary accountability issue. It also reflects the broader impasse in Parliament, where competing political strategies have replaced consensus on discussion and scrutiny.
