Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said judicial infrastructure is no longer a luxury but a necessity. At the inauguration of the Tower of Justice, a seven-acre judicial complex for the Gurugram District and Sessions Court near Rajiv Chowk, he called for mandatory women-centric amenities in all new court complexes.
The Chief Justice of India specifically asked for separate Bar rooms for women advocates and an adjoining childcare facility. He also said a justice consumer should receive basic amenities such as seating, drinking water, and washrooms.
UPSC may frame the issue around how court design affects access to justice, especially for women advocates, litigants from weaker sections, and the efficiency of district judiciary. The issue also links gender-sensitive public infrastructure with constitutional values of equality and dignity.
