What happened
Uttarakhand’s draft electoral roll after the special intensive revision (SIR) shows 71,33,785 voters. The state had 79,60,762 registered voters before the exercise began.
The Additional Chief Electoral Officer said about 8.26 lakh names may be liable for deletion after scrutiny. The draft roll contains roughly 52% male voters and 47% female voters.
UPSC can frame the issue around the Election Commission of India’s role in maintaining accurate electoral rolls, the safeguards for inclusion and deletion, and the tension between accuracy and exclusion errors in voter verification.
