What happened in the Supreme Court hearing
The Supreme Court heard oral submissions in the Bhojshala–Kamal Maula mosque complex dispute. The hearing focused on where Friday namaz (weekly congregational prayer) should be permitted while the Madhya Pradesh government raised law-and-order concerns about using land near the disputed complex for worship.
The Bench was led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Senior advocate Huzeifa Ahmadi presented the Muslim side, and Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta presented submissions for the government side.
Muslim side submissions: “near and adjacent,” distance, and worship at the Bhojshala site
Senior advocate Huzeifa Ahmadi argued that the district administration had allotted alternative land 1.3 km away from the Bhojshala–Kamal Maula mosque complex.
Huzeifa Ahmadi submitted that the Supreme Court’s earlier direction required sites that are “near and adjacent” to the disputed complex, and that an allocation 1.3 km away does not meet the “near and adjacent” requirement.
