What happened
The Delhi High Court granted bail to two people accused in an assault on freelance YouTube-channel reporters in Delhi’s Seemapuri area. Justice Girish Kathpalia said freedom of the press remains important, but press freedom also requires professional accountability, ethical conduct, and respect for law.
The court observed that many people now describe themselves as reporters simply by carrying a phone and a microphone, often without training or accountability. The court also noted that the journalists involved were not from an accredited organisation and that social-media media is increasingly unregulated and unorganised.
