What happened
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train on the Jind-Sonipat route. The launch makes hydrogen traction a visible part of Indian Railways’ cleaner-mobility agenda.
The Prime Minister also used the occasion to criticise earlier Congress-led governments and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab. Those political remarks are not a testable policy outcome, but the railway launch itself has exam value.
UPSC may use the hydrogen-powered train launch to test hydrogen as an alternative traction option, the logic of railway electrification, and the policy trade-off between cleaner mobility and operational cost, safety, and infrastructure readiness.
