A Delhi Police constable is alleged to have shot and killed his wife with his service pistol in east Delhi’s Vinod Nagar. The case is important for UPSC because it combines dowry harassment, women’s safety, police accountability, and criminal procedure.
What happened
Police said the accused, Manish Bhatti, was posted with the Anti-Auto Theft Squad. The victim, Priyanka, was 30 and worked as a teacher at a private school.
The family alleged that Bhatti had harassed Priyanka for dowry since their marriage in 2023. Police said Bhatti has absconded and a murder case has been registered.
What police have said
Investigators said the couple left home around 3 a.m. and CCTV footage allegedly shows them arguing near Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital before the shooting. Police said the matter is being verified.
