Border district policing, electoral-roll integrity, and cross-border smuggling emerged as linked concerns at the Land Border Districts’ Superintendents of Police Conference 2026 in New Delhi on July 9. The conference is relevant for UPSC because it connects internal security, border management, and the protection of democratic processes such as voter-list preparation.
The conference was chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah and attended by Superintendents of Police from 119 border districts, along with Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Mahesh Dixit, and Directors General of Police from 17 land-border sharing states and Union Territories.

UPSC can frame the issue as a test of India’s border-management capacity, the integrity of electoral rolls, and coordination between policing, intelligence, and civil administration in frontier districts.
