The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will begin its Budget Session on 5 August, and Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson will present the first budget of the C. Joseph Vijay-led government for 2026-27. What happened
Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar told reporters in Chennai on Tuesday that the Budget Session would begin at 10 a.m. on 5 August. The agriculture budget will be presented on 6 August.
The Speaker also said the business advisory committee would meet on 5 August after the budget presentation to decide the session schedule. He said the entire Assembly proceedings, including the discussion on the demands for grants, would be telecast live.
Why the budget session matters
The budget exercise is central to legislative financial control. It gives the state government a formal opportunity to place its expenditure priorities before the House and to seek approval for spending through the demands for grants.
