What happened: explanations before the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker
Four former AIADMK MLAs—Maragatham Kumaravel, P. Sathyabama, S. Jeyakumar, and Esakji Subaya—appeared individually before Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C. D. Prabhakar in Chennai to submit explanations in Tenth Schedule disqualification proceedings.
Additional AIADMK MLAs attended on behalf of the AIADMK party during the hearings.
Background and earlier position: the May disqualification petition and the confidence vote
AIADMK floor leader and party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami submitted the Tenth Schedule disqualification petition in May in connection with a confidence vote in which 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs voted in favour of the C. Joseph Vijay-led Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government.
Edappadi K. Palaniswami later condoned the actions of 21 of the 25 rebel MLAs. The remaining rebel MLAs resigned and joined TVK.
