What happened
Tamil Nadu Congress president B. Manickam Tagore organised an anti-delimitation march in Chennai and criticised the delimitation process that aims to change parliamentary constituencies. Tagore alleged that there “cannot be any fair delimitation” and called the delimitation process “fraudulent.”
Tagore alleged that political parties have changed positions on delimitation. Tagore claimed that some parties had previously voted against a delimitation Bill and later claimed the process was “fair.”
Tagore linked delimitation to Centre–State balance. Tagore alleged that the Union government and the Prime Minister were denying Tamil Nadu its due financial share and schemes despite Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary strength.
On seat allocation, Tagore claimed that promised seat increases for Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh would produce “unequal outcomes.” Tagore asserted that the gap in seats between Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh after delimitation would be larger and described the outcome as a “scam.”
Tagore said Tamil Nadu’s MPs and political parties should oppose the delimitation Bill to protect Tamil Nadu’s rights.
