What happened: Modi’s appeal after alleged abusive language at Jantar Mantar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he wants to forgive “misguided children” who allegedly used abusive language during protests at Jantar Mantar. Modi posted a video on X and Instagram and said the nation and the world witnessed the incident during the protest.
Modi said the abusive language does not “dignify civilised society”. Modi said the abuse included abuse directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother.
Modi said mistakes can happen in youth but can be corrected. Modi said the issue reflects anger in society and described the use of such language by daughters as a “cultural shock”.
Modi urged people to hug the protest participants and guide them, and Modi asked for restraint. Modi said there cannot be a solution by forcing youngsters to run around police stations and courts. Modi said the protest participants are “ours” and should be guided even if people were misled.
