What happened in Kerala’s Wayanad court

A court in Wayanad district, Kerala (Principal Sessions Court, Kalpetta) acquitted all accused who faced trial in a case linked to the 2003 Muthanga tribal land agitation. The court held that the prosecution failed to prove, beyond reasonable doubt, that there was a prior conspiracy to murder police constable K.V. Vinod.

The court also dealt with separate findings within the same overall criminal proceedings:

• The Principal Sessions Court ordered release of the accused based on the failure to establish the alleged prior conspiracy to murder K.V. Vinod beyond reasonable doubt.
