Mandya district in Karnataka’s Cauvery basin region saw continuing protests led by BJP workers and BJP leaders. BJP workers demonstrated outside the main entrance to the KRS reservoir. Police detained many BJP workers and BJP leaders, including BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra and Opposition leader R. Ashok.
BJP called for a bandh on 13 August 2026. BJP also threatened to boycott Sunday’s all-party meeting unless the Karnataka Chief Minister commits not to release water to Tamil Nadu.

The Karnataka Chief Minister stated that inflows into Cauvery basin reservoirs improved over the last two to three days and cited reservoir storage details for Harangi, Kabini, KRS, and Hemavathi.
For water release to Tamil Nadu, the Karnataka Chief Minister argued that the quantum released to Tamil Nadu in July 2026 was the smallest in 100 years. The Karnataka Chief Minister stated that Tamil Nadu sought release of 9.94 tmcft and that the CWRC recommended roughly half of that amount.
