LokOS is a web and mobile platform under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) for end-to-end digitisation of Self-Help Groups and their federations. The official release presents LokOS as a digital backbone for rural livelihoods because it replaces manual records with digital registration, transaction tracking, and monitoring across a large SHG network.
The platform matters for UPSC because it connects digital governance, financial inclusion, and women’s economic empowerment in one scheme architecture. The release also links LokOS with the Lakhpati Didi initiative and with the management of rural enterprises.
What LokOS does
LokOS is designed for managing Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs). The platform digitises member records, profiles, savings, lending, repayments, financial transactions, livelihoods, and convergence initiatives.
The official release says LokOS improves governance and financial management by reducing manual record-keeping, enabling real-time transaction tracking, improving transparency and accountability, and capturing financial transactions amounting to ₹2 lakh crore per year within the SHG network.
