The Ministry of Textiles will organise Weave The Future 4.0 – Upcycling Edition at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, from 12 to 17 July 2026. The event is intended to promote circularity, sustainable production and innovation in the textile and handloom sector.
A key development is the launch of the ‘What Is It Made Of?’ Textile Waste Innovation Challenge on 13 July 2026. The challenge seeks practical and scalable solutions to India’s textile waste problem and is open to students, artisans, weavers, designers, researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators and citizens.
The Ministry says India generates about 70.73 lakh tonnes of textile waste annually. This is estimated to include 29.73 lakh tonnes of pre-consumer waste and 41 lakh tonnes of post-consumer waste.
The initiative is being positioned as part of a broader shift towards a circular economy in textiles. The Ministry links innovation, traditional craftsmanship and circular design to economic value, social value and environmental value, including potential green employment.
