Integrated Aqua Park at Basantapur, Sambalpur under PMMSY (₹100 crore)
PMMSY-approved Integrated Aqua Park at Basantapur in Sambalpur is progressing from land and access works to core aquaculture infrastructure.
- The project has completed preparatory works such as land procurement, issuance of the letter of intent to the executing agency, and construction of the approach road and boundary walls.
- Construction is underway for the in-house hatchery facility, grow-out ponds, processing units, research facilities, and the effluent treatment plant.
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has reported progress on the Integrated Aqua Park at Basantapur, Sambalpur under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The project was approved by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India, in January 2025 with a project cost of ₹100 crore.
The project is relevant for UPSC because it sits at the intersection of aquaculture development, food processing, environmental management, and scheme implementation. It also illustrates how an integrated facility can combine production support with downstream and research functions.
