Social security and aquaculture insurance support under PMMSY and PMMKSSY for fishers and shrimp farmers
Government support for fishers' accident insurance and aquaculture insurance under PMMSY and PM-MKSSY

- The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying says PMMSY provided accident insurance support to fishers and allied fish workers through Centre-State premium sharing.
- The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying says PM-MKSSY provides a one-time premium incentive for aquaculture insurance purchased by farmers.
What happened
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying has reiterated two insurance-linked support measures for the fisheries sector: accident insurance for fishers under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and premium support for aquaculture insurance under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY). The two measures cover different risk profiles: livelihood shocks for fishers and production losses for aquaculture farmers.
Background and earlier position
UPSC may frame the fisheries insurance package as a welfare and sectoral-risk policy that combines occupational accident cover for fishers with premium support for aquaculture farmers. The question can also test cooperative federalism, subsidy design, and livelihood security in the fisheries economy.
