What happened

The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, has stated that the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana has been implemented across all States and Union Territories since 2020-21. In Odisha, the Department of Fisheries has approved fisheries development proposals submitted by the State Government, covering interventions aimed at strengthening the fisheries and aquaculture value chain.

Background and earlier position

The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana is the central sector flagship scheme for the fisheries sector. It was launched to improve production, modernise infrastructure, reduce post-harvest losses, and support fisher communities and fish farmers through a value-chain approach.

What changed now

The Government of India has now placed on record the scale of approvals for Odisha under the scheme since 2020-21. The approvals indicate continued central and state coordination for fisheries infrastructure, aquaculture development, and related downstream activities.
