What happened

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs informed the Rajya Sabha that 23 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) have been sanctioned in Telangana and all of them are functional, including one school running in an alternative building. The ministry also said that staffing for EMRSs across India is being filled in phases, with recruitment already completed for one batch and an examination conducted for another batch of teaching and non-teaching posts.

Background and earlier position

The UPSC angle · GS2 · GS1 · GS3

UPSC can frame Eklavya Model Residential Schools as a question on tribal welfare, access to quality schooling, staffing shortages, and implementation design. The issue also links to whether residential schools improve educational outcomes, reduce dropout risk, and support inclusion of Scheduled Tribe students in competitive examinations.
