What happened: PMMSY-linked approvals for Government of Kerala fisheries development
The Department of Fisheries, Government of India (DoF, GoI) is implementing fisheries development schemes in all States and Union Territories, including Kerala. Under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), DoF, GoI accorded approvals to Government of Kerala’s fisheries development proposals worth Rs. 1413.91 crore during the last five years and the current financial year FY 2026-27 (as stated in the government release).

Government of Kerala’s approved fisheries proposals include support across livelihood, infrastructure, and value-chain strengthening:
• Livelihood support to fishers during fishing ban period • Procurement of boats and nets for traditional fishers • Establishment of integrated modern coastal fishing villages • Establishment of climate resilient coastal fishing villages • Additional and alternate livelihood activities, including bivalve cultivation, cage culture, ornamental fisheries • Market and post-harvest value-chain facilities, including fish markets and kiosks, cold chain facilities, live fish vending centres • Training and skill development programmes • Development of fishing harbours and marketing facilities
