What the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways announced
The Union Government, through the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, announced policy and project updates for Inland Water Transport (IWT) and port infrastructure. The announcements cover a regulatory notification for jetties/terminals on National Waterways, IWT initiatives such as Jalvahak and tonnage tax support extension, and progress on multi-modal and inter-modal terminal assets plus fairway development and maintenance.
Uttar Pradesh focus on National Waterway (NW)-1
On National Waterway (NW)-1 (Haldia to Prayagraj), the Government listed multiple Varanasi-linked projects with statuses including completed multimodal terminals and community jetties, ongoing ship repair and other enabling works, DPR-stage river cruise/capacity-building activities, and PPP bidding for a freight village–multimodal logistics park.
